This is part 4 of the series that helps you make a decision and commit to your weight loss journey. If you didn’t complete parts 1-3, you might want to start from the beginning.
So far, you have looked at your weight problem from 3 angles:
- What you don’t like about having a weight problem.
- How your life would be different after you lose weight.
- What it’s going to cost you or things you don’t want to change.
What are the consequences of not changing?
Unlike the first three parts, which were about building self-awareness around your weight issue, this part is more about your knowledge. What do you know about other people who have excess weight, and how does it affect them long-term. Let’s consider the price you would pay if you chose not to go through the trouble of losing weight. Evaluate the immediate consequences of not changing and how your life might be affected long-term (5, 10, 20 years later).
Here are some things to consider:
- If you decide not to change, do you think you will continue gaining weight or keep the weight that you have now?
- Do you have health concerns related to your weight now? And in 10 (20) years? Think of your parents, relatives, or someone who has had a weight problem. What effect did excess weight have on their health in the long run?
- How about your relationship with your significant other, friends, parents, or children? What might be their reactions?
- What would you think of yourself? How would you feel about yourself if you keep your weight problem?
write it down
You need to take a piece of paper or a notebook and start writing about your life if you choose not to lose weight. Use the questions above as prompts.
Please save the paper or notebook; you'll need it for the last part of the course.
All right, great work!
Keep an eye on my next email with the final part of the course. You’ll put it all together and make a decision.
