What Do You Want Instead?

Use the power of your mind to generate the best version of yourselves

The weight loss process is a commitment. For many, it’s a long-term journey that requires energy, attention, and even sacrifices. To be successful, you need to have clarity about what you want, why you want it, and what it will cost you.

This is part 2 of the series that helps you get that clarity and be ready for your weight loss journey. If you didn’t complete part 1, you might want to start there first. Click here for part 1.

What Do You Want Instead?

Now that you are clear on how your current state is limiting you let’s figure out what you want instead. If you mainly focus on things you don’t like and don’t want about your weight, you are not giving your mind specific enough directions. It’s like getting into a cab and saying I don’t want to go to the airport. It’s time to learn where you do want to go! I invite you to imagine yourself in the future when you have already lost weight and live your life aligned with your values.
  • How do you feel about yourself?
  • How do you act or present yourself?
  • What do you look like?
  • How do the important people in your life see and experience you?
  • What are all the significant consequences you get from being in the body of your dream?
You might find it easier to visualize if you close your eyes. Take as much time as you need to fully immerse into that dream. Pay attention to every detail you see, listen to what people say, and notice what you feel. Visualization can significantly boost your motivation. It works on the simple principle that the more concrete and vivid your mental representation of your goal and its benefits is, the more motivated you will feel to achieve it. As neuroscientist Anil Seth said, “We don’t just passively perceive the world. We actively generate it.” Let’s take advantage of this ability and generate the best version of ourselves.
